Beautiful Children’s Illustrated Books

As a 27-year-old adult, it’s not often that I pick up children’s books. But there is just something so wonderfully charming in children’s picture books that render them ‘ageless’. I also work in the field of Design, so I have a huge interest in illustrative styles and techniques so I’m endlessly researching different illustrators and their works just for some creative inspiration. There’s an art to visual storytelling that is so instinctively powerful. A single picture can speak volumes. This post is to celebrate some of those visual storytellers. What I’d like to read more of in 2018

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs a reader, you always wonder what books would you like to read more of to diversify your reading. I have a few choices for this. I want to try and read more classics from the victorian times. I have’t read too many as it hasn’t been a genre that I really drift towards, so that is something I’d like to try and explore. The One Hundred Nights of Hero is a fascinating, beautifully drawn and gorgeous rendered retelling of the Arabian Nights, with a central lesbian couple. The idea of stories within stories, sisterhood and what it means to be a woman, enthused in myth and magic, makes for a fascinating read to curl up with on a lazy afternoon. Reading this book is like wrapping yourself in tapestry of tales each with a unique setting and strong message.  Continue reading
